Ex-“Dateline” producer sues NBC
A former "Dateline" producer alleges that she was let go from NBC News after she complained of ethical lapses on the show's "To Catch a Predator" series. Marsha Bartel of Lincolnshire, IL., has filed suit in U.S. District Court in Chicago, asking for at least $1 million in damages. Bartel contends that she was fired after raising several issues about the conduct of Perverted Justice, the organization that is paid by NBC News to carry out the sting operations. Bartel complained that the stings were overly coercive and that the network’s reporting of the operations reflected an interest in sensationalism over journalistic integrity.
News Corp. purchases Photobucket and Flektor
News Corp. has acquired two new, user-generated content sites for Fox Interactive Media, the division that houses the popular social networking site, MySpace. Photo-sharing site, Photobucket, was purchased for a rumored $300 million and Flektor, Inc, a technology company that provides software for video mash-ups and slideshows, was sold to News Corp. for a reported $20 million. Under terms of the deals, Photobucket is expected to remain a stand-alone site while Flektor will provide FIM with technology that lets users edit video and audio content, create mash-ups and slideshows, and incorporate live polls and quizzes into personal blogs and social-networking profiles.
