I went to council meeting last night, first time in a long time. (I game some Mondays so I tend to hold the date open even when a game isn't scheduled). There were a lot of people last night and it was fun and funny. The Barony has a lot going on and it's exciting to see new and old faces.
Coronation was this past weekend. I've been in the SCA for a very long time. I've seen good Monarchs and those not so good. I've enjoyed good reigns and suffered through not so good reigns. The good and the bad.
Every once in a while, a reign will be extraordinary. Gerhart and Una's reign was like that. Gerhart and Una were monarchs with a clear vision of what they wanted and how things would be. I found it amazingly inspiring and want to grow up to be them. Or maybe half of them, as they are so much taller than I. :)
Edric and Faizeh's reign was like that. Extraordinary. They too had a vision of their reign and it shone through at every moment. The focus on Persian culture worked perfectly. While not all members of their court were in Persian outfits all the time, enough were that there was a wonderful cohesion throughout the reign. And that's not even going into the beautiful processions with all those elegant dancers and talented musicians. And those Persian outfits are just so beautiful.
Case in point: During final court, there was a delay waiting for someone late for the event, and the Crown called for one of their court to come and dance. I don't know the lady's name, but she came down in front of the royal thrones and just danced, elegantly and beautifully and totally improvised (I'm guessing) accompanied by Sasha and Randwulf (?). It was one of the special Magic Moments we live for in the SCA.
