Not Dead!

Man, I haven't posted anything here in a long time.

I feel like I've been busy-busy, but I'm not really sure doing what.  And most of my good habits seem to have dropped off as a consequence.  Sigh.  What does it take to really establish a good habit long term?  Very frustrating.

And is it bad that I have thoughts of retiring from work in my head?  Not that I can afford it any time soon.  I figure I'll need to work at least 15 more years before I can really retire.  It would be nice to be able to have the full day, every day to do what I want, though.

I'm stressed about getting ready for GWW.  I have tons to do, and not much time left to do any of it.  I haven't a clue what I'm going to wear.  I guess I need to put my black wool bodice back together after taking it apart to draft  a pattern off it.  (And fix the arm opening.)

It got quiet at work.  Everyone went off to the Tuesday meeting.  I guess I should get some work done.

Later!

I am so with you on the stress over GWW. Too much to do and not nearly enough time.

You have an extra week. I'm on-site Oct. 4.

But I need the extra week also, and I am on-site Oct.5 and to make that happen must overnight in Bakersfield Oct.4...so no extra week for me.

But your football team did reasonably well on Sat. :-)

Reasonably well? Did you see the game? 35-3 baby, that's better than reasonable against the former #5 team in the country. :)

And it was certainly better than the team from across town did.

Motivation. If you want to teach your dog a trick or something, you get him to do the trick and then reward him with a treat. For a smart dog, he will learn the trick quickly and get rewarded with lots of treats. You are not a dog, but you can "train" yourself similarly. You put off going for a walk, then get someone to walk with you and you "reward" yourself with having good companionship. If you go alone, then start mall walking. Tell yourself that if you do, let us say, 3 laps, then promise yourself a "treat" by purchasing something that you want afterwards. Tell yourself that if you spend an hour cleaning house, you can spend an hour playing WoW on the computer.

It is totally natural to day dream about retiring, if you are unhappy or frustrated with your job. Unfortunately, the day dream retirement is a fantasy. Real retirement seems rarely being able to do what you want when you want to do it because there are other factors that you rarely day dream about. Will you have enough money to survive on after retirement and be able to do all the things that you have dreamed of? That take a lot of planning and lots more money than most people get. I have known many people who have had to take part time jobs in order to keep themselves in the manner that they were accustomed before retirement. And then there are unexpected occurrances that sometimes make your retirement dreams difficult. I was on my way planning my retirement, saving money, etc. and then my mom had a stroke and I have to retire early in order to care for her. What I planned on doing and what I am actually doing now are two very different things. Sigh.
