Shana Tovah

A good year to all as we start the year 5766. I was at Temple Monday night and Tuesday morning but skipped going to lunch after services to try and get stuff together for GWW. The sermons were a little uninspired this year and the choir still makes me cringe on certain songs. But we now have a wandering guitar player/singer who is pretty good. This is a little weird for this congregation. I've been going to Temple Akiba for services all my life. It's a reform temple but it's gotten rather old. So the guitar player is an attempt to bring the congregation to a younger hipper mentality. I'm not sure it's gonna work, but I like learning the new songs and singing. My niece went with us to Rosh Hashanah and she knows all these songs from Hebrew school and Jewish camps. I find myself once again wanting to learn Hebrew.

SCA Front: I've got most of my stuff together but have a few things I need to stop at the store to get and things I have to double check my packing list for. I still have to pack the car and I'm still working on the blue wool bodice which I think I'll take to the event and finish there. I just have the eyelets to do and some fixing of things that didn't sew quite right.

Home Front: There is some plumbing problem at the condo. Well actually a pipe problem I suppose but the result is some very large holes in the parking garage that were left marked but uncovered last night. It made getting in or out of the garage very awkward and I sure hope it doesn't interfere with my packing tonight and getting out to the war site at a reasonable hour tomorrow morning. The house is a mess which is to be expected as I've been sewing and not paying a lot of attention to it. I hope to get at least the kitchen and living room picked up before I go to GWW so it isn't quite so horrible when I get home.

Work Front: I have to get Still Standing, Kitchen Confidential and Prison Break all done today because they start shooting right when I get back from the War. I'm lucky that Arrested Development is taking a few days of hiatus and doesn't start their next episode until Thursday. I've just finished Still Standing and I'm reading Kitchen Confidential now but it looks like it will be an easy one to do. Prison Break I'll tackle after lunch plus all the revisions I can manage.

General Front: I need to be more organized. I think most of my problems with procrastinating on things are because the house is such a mess. (It goes both ways of course.....it's really hard to start things because the house is a mess and it's just too daunting to make a change so I decide to go read a book or play CoH instead. Work before play?

Not so much Work before Play, as The Real World Comes First. A year from today, you'll probably remember taking your niece to services and hearing that guitar player, but will this GWW stand out amongst all the others? I tend to remember events now by when my friends got significant awards, but other than that they tend to blur together.

About your work - what *do* you throw out of shows like 'Family Guy'? I frequenty am amazed at stuff that comes out of those characters' mouths. Jon just got Stewie Griffin: the Untold Story and we rolled around on the floor laughing.

Hope to see you some on Friday!

On a show like "Family Guy" (which is new to me this season, I've never worked on it before (and which doesn't start until November)) and "American Dad" we actually have an outside council (who is an expert on parody and stuff) look the scripts over. He lets a lot of stuff go but there are many discussions on whether the use of some well known person is transformative or not. On these scripts I'm pretty much checking to see if certain business names/products are clear for use.

I hope to see you at the war also! I'll be hanging out with LanternsKeep
