Well I'm safe now....okay safer. it's a long story though.
It seemed pretty clear that Fox Plaza was not going to be a defensible position. The Century city mall is on fire and the CAA building looks totally over run. I figured the best place to be was the Craft Center on the lot. It's where the lot hospital is and Security offices and all the construction stuff. The trick was to get to it.
We'd lost a few people already. Cynthia to stupidity (going into the stairwell to hush up the zombies), Jonathan (he wanted to go home to his wife and kids, he just took the elevator to the lobby), UnJu (never made it back from her meeting), Kathleen and Christine (couldn't go on with out a cup of coffee from downstairs). It's just Marc, Myra, Lisa and Lynn from the other department and me left. But Lynn knows the lot really well, and so do I. Oh, and Alfred from building security also.
Not a lot of people know this, but there is a back entrance from our parking structure onto the lot. It was tricky getting there. Alfred used his override key in the freight elevator to get to the basement level and then we had to do the sneaky thing through the garage. We lost Myra there. She wasn't sneaky enough. I made it to the gate and got Lynn and Lisa through, but Alfred and Marc went back from Myra.....and didn't make it.
I told Lisa and Lynn we were just going to have to run for the Craft Center. About a quarter mile away. And well...they both gave it their best try. But all the times I tried to get Lisa to go with me for a walk at lunch.....she never did. And Lynn wasn't in much better shape. Losing a few pounds and walking a lot paid off. I just wish I could have gotten all my friends here to.
So, I'm in the craft center now, with a lot of the construction guys and grips. Blue collar guys. The salt of the earth. They've got patrols going and they are trying to rescue people still on the lot,. I'm helping by watching the security monitors from the security room and giving a running heads up. There's earthquake supplies stocked up, and the studio hospital is operational. We'll hold out as long as we can.
Good luck to you all!
