Here's the work in progress from the Getty. (It's not a good pic.....I couldn't get a good closeup)
So! I was looking for a crow quill pen to use to finish the scroll I"m working on and I found a bunch of pigments that I'd forgotten that I'd purchased *and* some gum arabic (real stuff, not bottled). I'm all excited. After I finish the current scroll I'm going to get some bottles (spice bottles maybe, anyone know a good source?) and decant the pigments (some of which are in plastic baggies!) into jars and add distilled water which is (apparently) a better way to store them. Then I'm going to make up my own gum water and play. I found a really nice yellow in the batch. I can't wait!
I'm thinking my next scroll (Selene's Pel) will be with period (or close) pigments.

My favorite spice store, Penzey's, sells their very nice bottles empty. Here: http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/p-penzeysjars.html
There is exactly ONE Penzeys's store in California, and it's practically right around the corner from Calle Mayor Middle School, which explains why I keep disappearing during the day at Lyondemere events. You might give them a jingle and see if they have empty bottles in stock right there.
