Adventuring in Pewtering - Done!
Jun. 2nd, 2006 11:50 amWhewww! I got 500 of these little thingies cast for Coronation site tokens. Mariam and Lachlan came over and helped file them and I wouldn't have finished without their help. Thank you's also to Gerhart, Otuell and Medb for suggestions on how to fix the mold when it wouldn't cast properly. Thank you to Catarina for coming over and helping cut sprues off finished pieces on Tuesday night. Thank you to Tonwen for offering to help and coming over, but not getting a chance cuz I Was Stupid. Thank you again to Medb for getting supplies for me and letting me have a piece of her stone to carve and her excellent advice on the carving design.
Things I learned:
Always use eye protection (repeat 95 more times)
It takes longer than you think.
You can't short-cut the prep stage, carve stage and trouble shooting stage.
Melted metal is hot. Very hot.
So is the pot. And so is the ladle.
500 of anything is a lot.
Finishing feels good.
Things I need: Talcum powder, a sharper scribe tool, better gloves, a better setup to work then my patio table.
Back at work today. Work is picking up. I've got the first Prison Break script on my desk. Vanished should be here soon. I need to give Standoff a call and then work on revisions for King of the Hill and Family Guy. Most of it will wait until Monday. :)
Coronation is tomorrow and Queen's Champion is the next day. I'm looking forward to seeing Swen and Kolfina become our next King and Queen. And looking forward to their reign with delighted anticipation. I wish I had offered to be of some particular service to them. I wonder if I ought to try and take my archery gear and shoot archery at Queen's Champion.
I really could use a nap. I was up until after Midnight all week working on the tokens.
I think it's lunch time.
