War Report

aliskyeI'm exhausted!! War was great fun but boy is it a lot of work. I went out on Thursday morning and it was hot! hot! hot! and dry. Morgan and Medb and Angelina and Una helped me set up my pavilion. Thank god for Lanterns Keep and the Usual Suspects. I couldn't have done it with out them. I was feeling kind of weak and wimpy and they set up a mister line off the water spigot near camp and that helped revive me. (Nothing like standing under a cool mist when you are hot, dry and dehydrated.)
I had a wonderful time hanging out with friends. I camped with Lanterns Keep and Lyondemere was just across the road from us. Near the merchant area was the Company of Saint George where I got to talk with Catarina and Moira and Martin and Finella and Gareth. (Big news of the weekend: Gareth was asked to join the Order of Chivalry! I'm totally jazzed for him). At the other end of the camp I hung out with the wonderful crew of the White Star and at the Inn of the Crimson Spade. The official opening of the Crimson Spade was Saturday night and it was spectacular. A lot of people started showing up after the White Star Bardic competition was over and then it was gaming and drinking and singing until I wimped out and left just after Midnight.
I took a couple of classes that were great. One was on deciphering Juan Alcega (a late 16th century tailor) which was very cool. The teacher is one of those people who do dress dairies and costume research who I much admire. The second class was a practical class in making an Italian leather wallet which is actually a book. It was really neat and I got 95 percent finished in the class and then went back to camp to finish the book.
If there was anything that was disappointing about the weekend was the large number of people who were not in costume and who apparently think this is some kind of open Burning Man type of festival and are therefore free to do anything they want.
