Bummed

I think I'm a little sad? bummed? disappointed? this morning. I don't know what I was expecting but I'm disappointed that there was next to no reaction to the Scroll Challenge and I got zero feedback on my scroll at Coronation. Now, I didn't do either thing for any kind of acclaim but it makes me feel bad that apparently no one cared. Sigh.

Oh well. I had a good walk this morning, a little over two miles. I'm not sure how I'll do on my weigh in today, but I did try to increase my exercise over the past week (although I didn't get any over the Coronation/QC weekend.

Okay, off to work.

I will shoot to have two done before Crown. I'm a little, um, tied up right now, and I have a lot of sewing before the final pre-12th Night herald's meeting.

Once I'm up and in production, I will be able to crank.

'Sa deal?

I'd be willing to do a scroll. It'd be my first but well I guess now is as good a time as any to start right? What would I need to do?

Also the scrolls you posted here before were awesome. I was not at Coronation but what I saw looked great. :)

I'd suggest doing a practice piece for yourself as a start and getting over to the Kingdom Scriptorium, or class at Collegium or (hopefully) a workshop in Altavia, Angels or Lyondemere that I hope to have in the new year.

checkout the Kingdom Scribe website at

http://www.sca-caid.org/scribes/index.html

and join the Caid Scribes discussion list at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caidscribes/

Also check this site out:

Some of my supply recommendations are a little different, but she has some fabulous lesson plans.

I've joined the list and main SC&I one too. I have been working on a practice one for myself for sometime. I have many supplies in hand too. I will try and get over to the next scriptorium though the hard part is I work in El Segundo and get off at 3:30pm and live in Hollywood. I guess I could go there right after work and occupy myself until it starts.

I'm going to try and have some weekend scriptoriums in the new year. Possibly in Torrance in conjunction with the Sunday morning fighting practice.

Sounds great. Something not after work. I found a website that talks about whitework painting. I really like what I have seen done so far. It looks cool. :)

I think the trick to white work, is a paint that won't blend into the background (i.e. a permanant white that won't turn pink or blue unless of course you want it to) and a good brush. I'm loving my 18/0 liner brush right now.

No feedback? I cruised by the table and admired the scroll you did -- and told you about it!

So sorry I didn't get back to help with the judging of the challenge. I got distracted, since I haven't seen many people for awhile. I do apologize. And there were some gorgeous scrolls!

I'm sorry, Eowyn. I guess I spaced on what you said. I've been working myself into a first class funk since.

If my hand were legible and my artwork were better than stick-griffins, you would have my hands at your disposal. As it is, the other heralds point and laugh at my emblazon sheets. :-( I do paint promissaries when the situation calls for it, for at least I can color inside the lines reliably.

I think it's all really a matter of training and practice. Coloring in the lines is important though.

I think you'd be surprised at the number of tools scribes use. I bet it's as many or more than you use. They just don't weigh as much.

No one cared? What about all the scroll-ee things you've inspired me to work on? Dearheart, I think your challenge ROCKED and I'm making monthly/quarterly/bi-annual goals BECAUSE of your challenge.

Dearest, you are an amazing scroll-scribe inspiration. Don't let yourself tell yourself anything else!

Thanks Eilidh. Recently my department at work did a personality thing which was interesting but it shed some light on how I am. I think what I needed was more people to say something to me. Re: the Challenge to tell me that it made it difference (though clearly it didn't....there were still only 9 scrolls). Re: my scroll, I guess I wanted to hear someone say it was good or better than good. Heh. Without my having to beg for commentary.

I thought the challenge was great! I wish I had been able to finish mine on time, but I'm going to make my goal for next Coronation. I got a good look at your scroll at Collegium, I told you then it was awesome and amazed at the amount of work you put into getting the calligraphy just so. Calligraphy has always been the fall of me...I can draw pretty well, paint decently enough, but calligraphy...hell I can't even get my regular writing to look the same from sentance to sentance!
