Yesterday I went to the first half of the painting class at the Getty.  It was awesome!  Beyond words.  I'm really excited about it.  Of course the first half covered some things I already know (basic illumination history and things about pigments), but there were wonderful things I didn't know, and the chance to start working on a sample piece on vellum.  Did I say I was excited?  :) It was really fun to be in the same class as Ysabel and Eowyn.  I'm really looking forward to the second half of the class where we get to do the detail work.  I have to remember to bring in my camera.

We mixed one paint from dry to wet, and the others we just added gum arabic to (or was it glair?  I kept getting mixed up as to which binder we were using as apparently the proportions from "pigment paste" to paint are the same.  Did I say it was awesome?  :)

In other news, the strike is on, and it's pretty depressing.  People on the shows I work on are getting laid off left and right.  I really don't like this.  Some of the things I hear are Not Good.  I want it to be over now.

Is there any chance you'll be affected by the strike? I mean, directly? I hope not!!

It doesn't look like I'll be laid off (at least in the forseeable future) but if it goes on too long that's a possibility. I'll be doing different work (which isn't as fun as script clearance) as I'll be done with my last script tomorrow.
